Sustainability at ASC
We welcome everyone on campus, in Decatur and metro-Atlanta to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink with Agnes Scott. As part of our mission to live honorably, we accept the challenge of environmental stewardship, commit to education and leadership in sustainability and seek to balance what the college takes from and returns to the world’s natural resources.
Our Goal Is To Be Climate Neutral By The Year 2037.
Recent Progress Toward Our Goal:

Signed the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) as a charter member in September 2007 and joined the American Association for Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE)

Submitted our Climate Action Plan to the ACUPCC and are drafting our Sustainability Plan

Received foundation funding for “green” renovations of Campbell Hall and Woodruff Physical Activities Building

Received Jessie Ball duPont Fund grant to conduct an energy audit, purchase electric/gas/water sub-metering equipment for five buildings, develop an energy master plan and hire a sustainability fellow

Formed a partnership with the city of Decatur to work jointly on sustainability initiatives in the broader community

Announced the environmental and sustainability studies minor

Established policy that all new construction and renovation projects aim to follow LEED guidelines. The Alumnae House renovation was the first project designed to meet LEED standards.

Offered benefits to encourage alternative transportation use
